The Refinery - Cleveland Web Design Firm

User Experience Design

Great user experience design is created by observing and researching the people using your product.

Craft a Better Experience for Your Users

The Refinery was founded with the mission to make the world of software more intuitive. When a website or application is easy to use, users immediately become more productive. Customers often buy more and also tell their friends / colleagues about the great experience they had.

Investing time in user experience is one of the biggest competitive advantages you can have in a digital product. Over the last decade, it was a secret weapon for some of the most successful SAAS companies. Today, it's not a disrupting force, but the ante to play.

An Experience Built on Research

Design is both an art and a science. User experience, on the other hand, is almost completely a science. While user interface designers have the ability to create beautiful screens, if those screens are cumbersome, confusing or irrelevant to why the user visited, they will become frustrated and exit.

User Experience ensures that we build products exactly around what users need.  This is done through a number of research exercises, including:

  • Reviewing analytics data. We review your existing website analytics to learn about what's working and what needs to be improved upon.
  • Internal stakeholder interviews. We interview the business stakeholders in your company to understand the business value as it's intended to be delivered so we can learn about commonly known areas of that need to be improved.
  • Customer interviews. Building upon what we learned during the internal stakeholder interviews, we talk with actual users of the product as it is today. This helps us verify our discoveries from the internal stakeholder interviews as well as other areas of improvement directly from customers.
  • Personas. Taking the culmination of our results, we build personas that represent the key users of your product. This gives us an accurate representation of the customers as we design ways to improve the product.
  • Journey Maps. We understand the full value stream of how customers accomplish their jobs, both with your product and in surrounding areas of your product. We use this to identify new opportunities to serve the customer.

User Experience Design

Our design concepts and decisions are based upon strategic user research.

The most important aspect of a marketing website is the ability to connect with the user. By understanding the end users through research and experience, we are able to design websites that properly represent the company and brand, speaking directly to that company’s customer base.

We work with a multitude of businesses in various industries and understand the differences between them. View our case studies and see why details of user interface design make a difference.

User Interface Design

User experience is vital to the success of any website.

Websites need to function properly, be easy to navigate, be responsive on multiple devices and support the company’s digital goals, whether being education/informational, capturing leads or generating sales.

One of the best ways to know if your website is delivering your customers what they need is to simply ask them.

We couple industry specific best practices with user research and analytics to offer insights that help us develop websites that have an optimal structure, making them both easy to maintain and easy for visitors to use - whether it be on a smartphone, tablet or computer.

Our case studies showcase how we are consistently able to create a positive user experiences on the websites we develop.
